Darkroom convened nine marketing creators, 10 consumer brands and AI commerce operators for The Darkroom CPG Garden at Cannes Lions 2026. The five-day activation ran June 21 through 25 at a private villa in Cannes, France, and included two panels on AI’s role in commerce teams. The New York-based agency, which reports more than $5 billion in attributable commerce revenue, co-hosted the gathering with internet creative director Oren John, now a Darkroom partner. Triple Whale, Motion and Intuit Mailchimp partnered on the 2026 edition.

Panels Examine AI Commerce Teams

One panel, “How AI Is Evolving the Org Chart of Commerce,” brought together operators to discuss how automated systems are changing responsibilities within paid media and commerce functions. Moderated by Darkroom CEO Lucas DiPietrantonio and hosted with Triple Whale, the discussion included an example of a four-person paid team whose members moved into TikTok Shop, Walmart and international-market work after AI took over existing processes.

Speakers also examined how smaller teams are using AI tools to produce website pages and other commerce work. Ashwinn Krishnaswamy discussed building pages for Sun Powder with Claude and Codex using the company’s own customer data.

A second panel, “The Collapse of Walls: When Paid, Organic, and Creator Become One,” was hosted with Motion and moderated by Oren John. Wispr Flow’s Matt Swulinski described a multi-million-dollar ad account supplied by 250 creators, while Dara Denney addressed the effect of Meta’s Andromeda update on creative workloads. Manychat’s Josh Levine also described putting four of every 10 paid impressions behind a creator.

Nine Creators In Residence

Nine creators lived at the villa during the week, representing a combined audience of more than 4 million. The group included Oren John, Ashwinn Krishnaswamy, Blaze Smith, Clayton Chambers, Dara Denney, JT Barnett, Sammi Tannor Cohen, Tatum Brandt and Vår Aunevik.

The residence also served as a production set for the Cannes Tiger Awards, interviews and daily coverage distributed across Instagram, TikTok, YouTube and LinkedIn. The format gave brand builders, creators and technology operators a shared base during the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity.

Brand Partners Fill The Garden

The villa grounds featured oversized inflatable versions of hero products from Bero, Sauz, Something & Nothing and Foulplay. On June 22, Darkroom and Triple Whale also hosted a dinner for creators and brand builders.

Lucas DiPietrantonio, Co-Founder and CEO at Darkroom, said:

“My favorite part of Cannes wasn't the festival. It was the dinners, the real conversations with people actually building in this space, not people trying to sell you something. The creators we work with understand the content game better than anyone at the big agencies, and the media of the future is going to come from them: human brands and content with real audiences.”

A Shared Cannes Workspace

Darkroom’s Cannes program placed creators, consumer brands and AI commerce companies in one setting for a week of filming, discussions and relationship-building. The activation reflected the agency’s view that consumer brands, commerce platforms and creators are increasingly operating in overlapping roles.
