Sungrow has launched its PowerHarbor residential energy storage system in the Netherlands, Belgium, and Luxembourg, following its debut at Intersolar Europe 2026. The all-in-one system combines an inverter, battery, backup and energy management in one setup. Its arrival comes ahead of the Netherlands’ planned end to net metering on January 1, 2027. PowerHarbor offers up to 160% PV-to-battery charging capability, a 0.66P discharge rate and 83 possible battery configurations within a single unit.

Solar Storage for Dynamic Pricing

PowerHarbor is designed for households where solar output can peak at midday while demand is low and electricity prices may fall. The system’s up to 160% PV-to-battery charging capability is intended to absorb more solar generation during peak periods, while its 0.66P discharge rate can release full stored capacity in around 1.5 hours when household demand or energy value rises.

The system is also designed for virtual power plant participation. PowerHarbor is integrated with 28 VPP platforms across Europe, providing households with options for VPP programs.

iHomeManager Mini comes as standard, with an AI Mode that combines weather forecasts, household consumption patterns and electricity prices to help determine when energy should be stored, held or discharged. Shelly integration can extend the approach to connected appliances across the home.

Flexible Retrofit Options

For homes with existing rooftop solar, PowerHarbor can be deployed as separate inverter and battery units, allowing storage to be added without replacing existing PV equipment. Where an existing inverter is being replaced, the system’s 100 V startup voltage and wide MPPT range support more string layouts, subject to voltage and current compatibility.

Built with high-energy-density 314 Ah cells, the unit is 25.5 cm deep for narrow hallways and passageways. It supports 6, 9 and 10 kWh battery modules, with 83 possible combinations within a single unit. Each module includes a built-in battery optimizer, allowing new modules, including those with a different capacity, to be added alongside existing ones.

Installation and Backup Design

Battery modules stack without external cables, with the blind-mate connection taking around 10 seconds per module. External terminals are positioned on the right-hand side of the system.

PowerHarbor also pairs with EnergyBridge, a DIN-rail-mounted backup device that integrates five functions into a single unit. Sungrow states that EnergyBridge is up to 99% smaller by volume than a conventional gateway, fits inside a standard distribution box and installs in around 20 seconds without wall damage.

A Benelux Energy Management Option

PowerHarbor gives households in the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg a compact system that brings solar storage, backup and energy management together. Its modular design and integrated controls are intended to help households make more use of the electricity generated by their rooftop solar systems.
