Coach marked its 85th anniversary with a Spring 2027 runway presentation in downtown New York City on Sept. 10, unveiling a collection built around slim silhouettes, inside-out construction, expressive leatherwork and celebratory details. The New York fashion house drew from longstanding Coach archetypes, including trench coats, leather jackets, tuxedos, bias-cut dresses and Western boots. New accessories included the Turnlock Tote, inspired by a 1970 Coach design, and the Hudson sneaker. The presentation concluded with student musicians from UpBeat NYC and eight voguing dancers directed by Arturo Lyons.

Familiar Forms Reworked

The collection paired classical tailoring with materials intended to convey wear and improvisation. Overcoats, blazers and trenches exposed linings and internal structures, while nappa leather, garment-dyed heavyweight jersey and repurposed fabrics appeared across outerwear, dresses, tops and pants.

Bias-cut dresses and skirts were made in repurposed garment-printed lining fabrics, overdyed georgette, denim, lamé and sequins. Visible facings, cut edges and decorative catch stitching left elements of the construction on display, while knit and crochet sleeves could be added across dresses, tops and outerwear.

Stuart Vevers, Creative Director at Coach, said:

“For Coach's 85th anniversary, I was thinking about memory and the way familiar things change as we live with them. I didn't want to make a retrospective. We turned familiar Coach ideas inside out, exposed their construction, softened them and left traces of a celebration on them. Having 85 years behind us gives us the confidence to look forward.”

Celebration In Leather Goods

Party references ran through the collection in metallic foil-rubbed leather, confetti surfaces, glitter and red nail-polish treatments. Coach recreated crowns, pointed hats, bows, gifts and birthday cards in leather, extending the anniversary concept across accessories.

The Turnlock Tote uses turnlock hardware introduced by Coach’s first lead designer, Bonnie Cashin, and appears in boarded leather and suede. The Inside-Out Brooklyn reveals the internal construction of a recent Coach silhouette, while the Tabby is presented in decorative party finishes and as a collaged version made from sourced vintage Coach pouches.

Footwear included the Hudson sneaker, based on the narrow proportions of a 1970s tennis shoe, and a slouchy calf-leather Western boot. Both were finished with metallic rub-off, confetti, glitter and nail-polish treatments.

A New York Anniversary Event

Before the runway, guests entered a dimly lit setting of small tables and leather-wrapped folios designed to evoke bar menus. The evening included sparkling wine and a Coach 85 anniversary cocktail made with Tanqueray gin.

The soundtrack began with John Grant’s “Marz” and moved through fragments of MFSB’s “Love Is the Message,” a song connected in the collection notes to David Mancuso’s New York parties. For the finale, UpBeat NYC musicians performed “Love Is the Message” with saxophonists over a backing track as models returned to the runway.

Confetti fell around the models, musicians, dancers and guests before performers led the audience into Coach Club 85, where the anniversary celebration continued.
