B&H Photo Video has announced the new Fujifilm XF 400mm f/4.5 R LM OIS WR super-telephoto lens, positioning the compact prime option for sports, action, and wildlife photographers. The lens offers a 400mm focal length, a stated 609mm full-frame equivalent on APS-C cameras, and a maximum aperture of f/4.5. It weighs just under 2.75 pounds and includes optical image stabilization rated for up to 5.5 stops of shake compensation. Fujifilm’s new optic also combines high-speed autofocus with weather-resistant construction for photographers working outdoors.

Long Reach In A Compact Lens

The XF 400mm f/4.5 is designed as a lightweight super-telephoto prime for handheld shooting during long events and on trails. Its APS-C design delivers a 609mm equivalent focal length, while the lens has an aperture range of f/4.5 to f/22.

The optical formula includes four ED and two Super ED elements, alongside a rounded nine-blade diaphragm. A high-speed linear autofocus motor is intended to help users track unpredictable action at distance.

Stabilization And Field Durability

Optical image stabilization gives handheld photographers up to 5.5 stops of shake compensation, according to B&H. The lens is also weather-resistant for use in wet, dusty, or snowy conditions.

For photographers seeking additional reach, the lens is compatible with the Fujifilm XF 1.4x teleconverter. That combination expands the options available to users shooting distant sports and wildlife subjects.

Resources For Fujifilm Users

B&H has published a B&H Explora overview of the new super-telephoto lens, as well as a YouTube First Look video. B&H positions the XF 400mm f/4.5 as a focused addition for Fujifilm users building a capable sports, action, or wildlife photography kit.
