NYU Langone Tops Vizient Rankings for Fifth Year
NYU Langone Health ranks No. 1 in Vizient’s health system rankings for a fifth consecutive year, including its Manhattan campus.

NYU Langone Health has been named the No. 1 health system in the United States by Vizient for the fifth consecutive year. The New York health system is the first to lead Vizient’s Comprehensive Academic Medical Center category for five straight years. Its Manhattan campus topped a cohort of 122 institutions, while its network of more than 400 ambulatory practices ranked first among 70 participating physician practice networks. The rankings assess mortality and infection rates, patient experience scores, and other measures of quality and safety.
Results Across Regional Hospitals
NYU Langone’s regional hospitals also placed strongly in Vizient’s rankings. NYU Langone Hospital Long Island ranked No. 3 and NYU Langone Hospital Brooklyn ranked No. 6 in the Large, Specialized Complex Care Medical Center cohort of 225 institutions.
NYU Langone Hospital Suffolk, which advanced to Vizient’s separate Complex Care Medical Center cohort last year, placed No. 55 in a field of 238 institutions.
Alec C. Kimmelman, MD, PhD, dean of NYU Grossman School of Medicine and CEO of NYU Langone Health, said:
“When patients look for the best place to receive their care, nothing matters more than quality and safety. Vizient understands that. That’s why NYU Langone is exceedingly proud of our teams, whose shared commitment to the highest standards led to this incredible, repeated recognition.”
Measures of Patient Care
Vizient’s nationwide survey, conducted annually since 2005, evaluates seven cohorts based on hospital size, services, and operational characteristics. The organization measures performance across six domains: safety, mortality, effectiveness, efficiency, patient centeredness, and variation in care.
The recognition joins other quality and safety ratings cited by NYU Langone. U.S. News & World Report recently ranked the system No. 1 in more clinical specialties than any other medical center in the country. NYU Langone hospitals have also earned 10 consecutive A ratings in safety from the Leapfrog Group and received multiple Magnet designations for nursing excellence from the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
Five Consecutive Top Rankings
NYU Langone’s latest result marks five consecutive years at No. 1 in Vizient’s Comprehensive Academic Medical Center category. The ranking places the system’s Manhattan campus and ambulatory network among the top performers in their respective national cohorts.
